by TargetX Email Minute With older Millennials pursuing graduate degrees and millions of their younger kin poised to begin the college search, student recruiters should welcome any new insights into this next great generation. A recent study compares Millennials—born between 1982 and 2002—with their Generation X predecessors, and points to some interesting contrasts that might influence your recruiting communications:
Perhaps the most important difference is the relationship between these generations and their parents. The original "latch-key kids," Generation X has given way to the children of hovering "helicopter parents." Today’s young people seem unusually close to their elders, says John Page of polling company Yankelovich Inc. "Millennials appear to talk to their parents more than the preceding generation about money, emotions and decisions." So remember to include parents in your recruiting plans. Even graduate recruiters are realizing that parents of Millennials continue to play a major role in their children’s educational decisions. Just ask those—like Jeffrey Rice of Ohio State University’s MBA program—who have had parents show up for the admission interview with their Millennial Master’s candidates. by permission http://www.targetx.com/knowledge/index.html |
